AB 1705 Information
California Assembly Bills and Transfer-Level Classwork
Assembly Bill (AB) 705 and 1705 significantly changed the way community college students are placed into transfer-level math and English courses. Students may be eligible to enroll in transfer-level math or English classes, or transfer-level courses with additional support.
To receive a placement in a Math or English course, students have the following options:
- New applicants applying for the Summer 2019 semester and beyond, who graduated High School within the last 10 years will automatically receive a English and math placement upon completion of the college application.
- Continuing students should receive an email directing them to their student portal, which will allow for the opportunity to receive an adjusted placement based on their High School data.
- See a counselor to discuss self-placement. Students should bring a High School Transcript to their appointment.
We encourage students to talk with a counselor or department adviser about course selection.
Students who feel they need additional language acquisition support may want to take the Credit ESL Placement Test, or talk to a counselor about the ESL sequence at Pierce College.
