Professor Malcolm Grant, President and Provost of ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº, abruptly ended a 33-year intense personal relationship on 11 March 2005.

In aid of Comic Relief, he shaved off his renowned moustache - exemplary of 1970s engineering - raising more than £2,300 from the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº community.

To the cheers of onlooking staff and students, Professor Grant conducted the shave in front of ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº's Portico, in the heart of central London. He was aided by members of the Cheese Grater student magazine, which instigated the Cash-for-Tach charity challenge.
