Mission-Oriented Innovation Network (MOIN)

MOIN_Research

MOINÌýbrings together leading global policymaking institutionsÌýto share the challenges and opportunities they face when trying to actively create and shape markets, not only fix them. Key to this activity is understanding how to create, nurture and measure public value.ÌýThe network is supported byÌýthe Rockefeller FoundationÌýand forms a key policy engagement platform forÌýproject on Growth Welfare Innovation Productivity ().

Mariana Mazzucato and Tom Coutts
Leading investment management company Baillie Gifford donated £1 million to IIPP to support our core work including the Master ofÌýPublic Administration (MPA) in Innovation, Public Purpose and Public Value whichÌýfocusses on building capacity to innovate in public purpose-driven organisations and IIPP's annual public lecture series. Thomas Coutts, partner at Baillie Gifford, said:
"We are interested in rethinking capitalism and challenging mainstream economic belief—whose support owes more unquestioning faith than rigorous thought. We are delighted to support IIPP's work."

IIPP launchedÌýa lecture series in April 2018 on .ÌýThe series wasÌýkicked off by IIPP Director Mariana Mazzucato and British Library CEO Roly Keating, followed byÌýspeakers includingÌýleading architects and planners (Richard Rogers, Amande Levete, Lucy Musgrave, Dan Hill, Finn Williams),Ìýdigital strategists and designersÌý(Jeremy Till, Mike Bracken), artistsÌýand designers (Brian Eno, Jeremy Till,)Ìýeconomists and social scientistsÌý(Jayati Ghosh, Dan Sarewitz, Rainer Kattel).

We hosted another series in 2019 on Innovation and the Welfare State,Ìýwhich includedÌýCarlota Perez, Kate Raworth, Hilary Cottam, Tom Loosemore, Lord Victor Adebowale, Madeleine Gabriel, Evgeny Morozov, Isabella de Michelis, Francesca Bria, Jaideep Gupte, Ian Hogarth and Carol Sinclair.Ìý

Mariana Mazzucato and Angel Gurria OECD IIPP MOU
OECD and IIPP signed a Memorandum of Understanding in February 2019 to work closely to develop dynamic capabilities for mission-oriented public institutions and creating new policy toolkits that deliver public value. Angel Gurria, OECD Secretary-General, said:
"Joining the forces of the OECD and IIPP can create real synergies and help governments take the next step. Together, we can create tools and methods for policymakers that deliver a more inclusive and sustainable public value."
