    Research groups

Our research groups are strong, broad-based, disciplinary teams associated with laboratories, which frame the focus for strategic development within the department.

    Research labs

Our research labs are smaller teams of researchers that focus on high-quality research and collaborative projects in a specific area of study.

    Research centres

Research centres and institutes are large scale interdisciplinary teams established by ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº or across institutions. They support ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº in advancing its broad disciplinary strengths.

    Research Excellence

¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Computer ScienceÌýis at the global forefront of experimental computer science research, focusing on real-world data and computer and software systems and their use.

    • Our approach emphasises methodological rigour and reproducibility, determining our strategy and underpinning our research education.Ìý
    • TheÌýResearch Excellence Framework (REF), which assesses the quality of research in UK higher education institutes, ranked us second in the UK for research power and first in England.
    • Over 80% of our Impact case studies were rated ‘outstanding’ (4*) and 100%Ìýwere rated either ‘outstanding’ (4*) or having ‘very considerable impact’ (3*).Ìý

    The Alan Turing Institute

¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Computer Science plays a key role in the relationship between ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº and the Alan Turing Institute, the UK National Institute for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº is a founding member and joint-venture partner of the Turing.

Our academics, researchers and PhD students are involved in several projects in a variety of fields from Security & Privacy to Machine Learning, from Digital Health to AI fairness. Find out moreÌýabout ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº and the Alan Turing Institute.
