Montaz March茅 (MA History 2018-19) receives prestigious Wolfson Postgraduate Scholarship

果冻影院 History congratulates Montaz March茅 (MA History 2018-19) for the receiving a prestigious three-year Wolfson Postgraduate Scholarship in the Humanities, and admission to the PhD program in the Department of History at University of Birmingham.

March茅 works on modern black British History, particularly of the 18-20th century. Recently, her research has explored 18th century gender, racial politics, and experiences of black women in London.

At University of Birmingham, March茅 will commence work on her PhD thesis, tentatively titled 鈥溾楳apping the Dark and the Feminine鈥: An Examination into Black Female Visibility in Eighteenth Century Britain鈥 that explores the presence and significance of black women in eighteenth-century London and its environs. This work builds on the MA Dissertation that March茅 wrote at 果冻影院 History in 2019, titled 鈥淔or a Sable Venus to Move: An Analysis of Black Female Migration between Britain and the British Caribbean, 1700-1850 and the Politics of Black Femininity,鈥 that she completed under the supervision of Dr. Chloe Ireton. March茅 has written about her MA research into black women in 18th-century London for the 果冻影院 History website and for . At University of Birmingham, March茅 will work with Professor Karen Harvey and Dr Sadiah Qureshi.

Last October 2019, 果冻影院 History interviewed March茅 about her research, her time at 果冻影院, and the importance of Black History Month. March茅 is also an active member of the , and is passionate about bringing black British histories to the forefront. March茅 is also the research assistant on Windrush Cricket, a research project at 果冻影院 History, and also regularly works in media and television. 听
