¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Faculty of Medical SciencesÌýPublic LectureÌýin March celebratesÌýInternational Women's DayÌýwith a talk about gender pay inequality in the medical field.

Women have been working in medicine for over 100 years now, but are still under-represented at the top of the profession. This is a reflection of the place women play in society. Women have struggled to reach equality of both status and pay. Work commissioned by the Department of Health and Social Care in England, and published in 2020 has defined what is now well known as the Gender Pay Gap. The gap in medicine is large for a single professional group. Work is underway to identify the contributors to the Gender Pay Gap, and to bring it down. This is an issue for women, but also for everyone, as the number of women in the medical workforce has been increasing, and women are already in the majority in several medical specialties. Pay gaps are a measure of inequality in society, and need to be addressed to reduce inequality.

This lecture will be followed by a Q&A with our speaker Professor Dame Jane Dacre.
