¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Faculty of Medical SciencesÌýpresents its MayÌýPublic LectureÌýwhich is dedicated toÌýWorld Asthma Day with a talk about AI and lung health care.

There are more than 600 million people in the world living with long-term lung health problems such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). We urgently need better ways to diagnose and treat these conditions. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to transform health care and in this lecture, we will consider how AI can improve the care of those living with asthma and COPD.

This talk will demonstrate how data from the sensors on your smartphone, such as the camera and microphone, can be combined with AI to recognise breathing in real-time and measure lung function. We will discuss how these data can be used to make breathing exercises much more enjoyable and interactive, and look at a smartphone platform that is under development for patients with asthma and COPD. We will also briefly touch upon some of the limitations, and potential pitfalls, of using AI in health care.

This lecture will be followed by a Q&A with our speakers Prof John Hurst andÌý Dr Luke Hale.
