Description

Module descriptionÌý

The module takes the form of advanced practice in designing audio experiences with formative assessment throughout.Ìý

Your assessed work, submitted at the end of the summer, will be an ambitious audio experience, the nature and style of which will be agreed with lead tutors and mentors. You might, for example work variously towards a virtual reality based, binaural headphone based or room based installation. The module will involve a period of pre-production and research, the creation of a written proposal and in-person pitch during the second term and finally the production of the audio work.ÌýÌý

Ìý

This project work will be supervised by the tutors and mentors. Tutors will expect and monitor the way in which you bring your learning from your optional modules into your project work and you will have a chance to reflect on this in the critical evaluation that you produce alongside your practice based work. This module is designed to build experience in advanced level audio design and production skills necessary for entry to professional work in related fields. It also provides a series of lectures and masterclasses to provide the relevant resources and tools for entry into professional audio work.Ìý

The work for this core module begins in term two but runs mostly over term three, completing over the summer.Ìý

  • Use advanced narrative techniques for audio, including employing advanced editing, sound design and immersive storytelling techniques, appropriate to your chosen project.Ìý

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of modes of creation, the role of acoustics and psychoacoustics and thinking about the relation between form and content in creative immersive audio documentary practice;Ìý

  • Show a comprehensive understanding of the ethical considerations involved in making immersive audio work, drawing on an advanced critical approach to material presented, making use of scholarly reviews and primary sources (immersive material) and applying these practically.Ìý

  • write a sophisticated, clearly argued and persuasive critical evaluation referencing related works and pieces of inspiration, reflecting your advanced understanding of the field, analysing the strengths and weaknesses of your production workflow and the work itself.ÌýÌýÌý
