Description

At the Bartlett, the Design Studio is the basis of design teaching and learning. Landscape Architecture design teaching is delivered by Design Studios, taught by design professionals (part-time academics).

Each studio presents an individual design programme that reflects their studio pedagogy and approach to innovative Landscape Architecture.

Advanced Landscape Design 2

This is the major landscape design module and sits together with the Landscape Thesis as the apex of landscape design and research in your taught education. You will develop a project for a site identified through previous design studies and a field studies. This site will address areas of interest and you will undertake appropriate research whilst developing a complex, contextual landscape design to a level appropriate to a graduating master’s project. Students therefore demonstrate an advanced level of skills and expertise, plus further developing selected areas of knowledge particular the individual brief and site.

Advanced Landscape Design 2

The module aims:

• to demonstrate design skills that develop through experimentation and speculative design research towards forming an original approach to Landscape Architecture

• to synthesize this approach to Landscape Architecture within the framework of a final design project

• to demonstrate the way this project serves as a strategic approach to the relevant context

Students gain:

• understanding of appropriate landscape architecture concepts and techniques

• skill in the manipulation these concepts and techniques to create a novel design proposal with the aim of transforming a given context

• critical and creative skill in communication and presentation techniques in a seminar/crit setting and in portfolio preparation

Teaching and learning methods include introductory lectures, seminars, individual and group tutorials and reviews (where you can present your work in an open forum, for comment and discussion).

Site visits to natural areas and constructed sites introduce site analysis and understanding of a range of design outcomes. As the year progresses your will undertake two projects that increase in scale and complexity. These projects are developed alongside the Landscape Thesis (BARC0119) module.

Tutorials

Tutorials normally take place on a weekly basis. Open juries (or reviews) are organised by each studio. Presentation of work by students is in a seminar/review setting.

Assessment is via a drawn, modelled and written design portfolio.
