Description

In this module you will learn about different individual-centred approaches to supporting childhoodÌýmental health. This includes relevant prevention and intervention approaches that might reduce theÌýlikelihood of mental health difficulties developing or help support children and adolescentsÌýexperiencing common mental health difficulties. Learning will include a focus on evidence basedÌýmodels of therapeutic interventions, spanning cognitive behavioural, mentalization, psychoanalytic,Ìýand systemic approaches to supporting children experiencing mental health difficulties. The moduleÌýwill also include teaching on the latest developments in digital approaches to mental health.
You will learn about theories and research underpinning different therapeutic approaches toÌýintervention and prevention, and the commonalities and differences these approaches in how theyÌýformulate and address child mental health. Across the module considerations of culture and contextÌýwill also be discussed.
During the module there will also be some discussion of how decisions are made around differentÌýtreatment approaches, related to the strengths and limitations of the evidence-base.
