Description

The module is designed for those who want to gain an in-depth understanding of the nature of bi- and multilingualism at both individual and societal levels and of the ways in which bilingualism and multilingualism can be used as linguistic, cultural and cognitive resources for learning and living in a diverse and competitive world. It will begin with a discussion of the main dimensions of bilingualism and multilingualism. It will then go through topics such as bilingual language acquisition in childhood, bilingualism and cognition, language policy and planning, translanguaging and other multilingual practices, bilingual families and communities and bilingualism in education.
