  1. Biomechanics and Biostructures A (MECH0039)

Description

This module is intended to provide an introduction to the principles of biomechanics and the structures of biological tissues. It covers the basic anatomy and physiology of the human body, the hierarchical levels of the structures of biological tissues, the mechanical behaviour of the human body. It also discusses the structure and functional relationship in tissues, and the applications of stress and strain analysis applied to biological tissues.

Lecture topics include:

  • Structural Organisation of the Human Body
  • Fundamental Mechanics
  • Biomechanics of Bone
  • Articular Cartilage
  • Skeletal Muscle
  • Spine, Friction/Lubrication/Wear at the Joints
  • Biomechanics of Joint Replacement
  • Basic Cell Biology
  • Histology
