Description

鈥淐limate Change and Health鈥 explains the global causes of, consequences from, and responses to climate change, focusing on health. Sessions can cover population, gender, food, water, politics, communication, economics, and humanitarianism including related to science, policy, law, and action. The international climate change negotiations can be discussed along with direct implications for the NHS and other medical professionals. The module reviews climate change adaptation, climate change mitigation, the connections between them, and their places within wider health contexts.

After taking this module you should be able to:

  1. Define the scientific basis and basic concepts for human-driven (anthropogenic) and natural climate change impacts.
  2. Critically analyse multi-scale climate change concepts, drivers, policies, and actions, including mitigation, adaptation, their connections, and their wider contexts.
  3. Differentiate between positive and negative consequences of climate change, including for health, health determinants, health personnel, and health systems.
  4. Differentiate between positive and negative consequences of policies and actions that address climate change, including for health, health determinants, health personnel, and health systems.
  5. Critically appraise science, policy, and media discourses on climate change and health.

The module is open to students on the MSc/PG Dip Global Health and Development, other 果冻影院 MSc/PG Dip students, short course and taster students.
