Description

The aims of this module are to enable the you to achieve and develop clinical competencies (knowledge and skills) in a range of hearing assessments and current rehabilitative techniques in patients with and without hearing loss. The module will enable you to manage the auditory rehabilitation of patents with hearing impairment in a holistic fashion.

Specific clinical skills in assessments and patient management include – otoscopy, pure tone audiometry, uncomfortable loudness levels, middle ear testing in adults, acoustic reflex testing, optoacoustic emissions, impression taking and earmould selection, real ear measurements, hearing aid test box measurements, earmould modifications, questionnaires, history taking. Competencies / full patient management for - patients referred directly for hearing aid fitting; hearing aid fitting, reassessment, follow-up and repair.

Please note that this module is taken over a period of 12 months, due to its clinical nature and the requirements to meet clinical competencies required by the accreditation bodies. This is a compulsory module in stage 2 of the MSc / PG diploma in Audiological Science with Clinical Practice.
