Description

This is a compulsory module for nurses and non-medical healthcare professionals on the PGCert in Independent and Supplementary Non-Medical Prescribing with Enhanced Clinical Assessment programme. The module is particularly attractive to practitioners working in specialist and/or Enhance Clinical Practice (ECP)/ Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) as it equips them with the requisite skills for professional autonomy and accountability for holistic patient assessment and management. It allows students to build on their knowledge of anatomy and physiology to develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes which will enable them to carry out a comprehensive whole body/whole system approach to clinical assessment; be able to elicit clinical history to formulate a differential diagnosis; and be able to identify relevant clinical investigations in order to manage patients safely and effectively within the scope of their practice. ÌýIn addition to the anatomy and physiology and history-taking skills and documentation, the following systems will be included in the teaching and assessment of the module:

  • Neurology
  • Respiratory
  • Cardiovascular
  • Abdomen
  • Musculo-skeletal
  • Eye and Ear, nose and throat (ENT)

The module also addresses clinical assessment in different patient groups, such as children, the elderly, different cultures and ethnicities.
