Description

This module aims to provide students with an opportunity to enhance their clinical reasoning skills, integrate theoretical concepts and implement evidence-based practice during a mentored practice-based placement. The module also aims to develop the student’s ability to justify an assessment or intervention, analyse outcome and reflect on your practice. A final aim of the module is to advance your physiotherapy knowledge and skills required for the effective assessment, triage and management of people with musculoskeletal problems within a biopsychosocial framework

On completion of this module students should be able to:

  1. Utilise advanced skills of assessment to interpret patient's musculoskeletal problems, incorporating a patient-centred approach and drawing on experience, reflective practice and research evidence.
  1. Demonstrate the advanced skills of clinical reasoning required of an advanced healthcare practitioner by:
  1. assessing examination findings and planning optimum pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions
  2. selecting from, justifying and applying a broad repertoire of advanced technical skills

demonstrating expertise in advanced physiotherapy skills within a biopsychosocial framework with an emphasis on evidence-based rehabilitation, manual therapy and effective communication with patients

  1. critically measuring and evaluating all outcomes of interventions
  1. Critically evaluate both established and contemporary concepts of physiotherapy practice in the context of the supporting evidence.
  2. Reflect upon and critically analyse the management of musculoskeletal patients including their scope of practice within the multidisciplinary team.
