Description

Collecting, managing and presenting quantitative data in a rigorous manner is essential for monitoring and evaluating programs and interventions. A good grounding in survey methodologies will provide key skills if you wish to collect or interpret data in both academic and NGO settings. This module will equip you with the concepts and skills required to design and conduct surveys for diverse population groups and to critically evaluate surveys carried out by others. The course emphasises practical learning and focuses on real life experiences and application.Ìý

Ìý

After taking this module you should be able to:Ìý

  1. Appraise a range of sampling strategies and evaluate their appropriateness in different research contexts.Ìý

  1. Evaluate and select between different modes of data collection.Ìý

  1. Design a quantitative questionnaire.Ìý

  1. Critically discuss effective principles and approaches to measuring morbidity and mortality.Ìý

  1. Enter, clean and manipulate data in STATA and draw conclusions from the results.Ìý

  1. Prepare data for presentation and dissemination to different audiences.Ìý

The module is open to students on the MSc/PG Dip Global Health and Development, other ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº MSc/PG Dip students, Taster course students and Short course students subject to availability. If you are a part time, a Short course or a Taster student and have not done a core research method module please contact the course coordinator.Ìý

You will have lectures and computer laboratories.Ìý
