Description

The overarching aims of this module are to: Ìý

  • Develop students’ understanding of the socioeconomic and ethnic composition of a community as well as the health inequalities that exist in communities.
  • Develop students’ understanding and engagement with real world challenges involved in the interrelationship between community, wellbeing, social inclusion and their policy and professional based frameworks using academic and practice based theory. Ìý
  • Provide students with tools and techniques to address the community wellbeing where social prescribing is and/or will be a focus using their ingenuity, creativity and cross-disciplinary knowledge that will eventually lead to improvements.
  • Build students’ awareness of partnership working in the domain of co-production methodology with communities and the transferability of this to other areas.
  • Foster interdisciplinary thinking that will enable students to develop their ability to gain skills, understanding and personal attributes associated with employability in their chosen occupations.

Teaching delivery: This module is taught in 10 3 hour sessions, including lectures, guest speakers, workshops and seminar discussions. Ìý

  • How community organisations support health and wellbeing in London and the UKÌý
  • Social prescribing delivery in the NHSÌý
  • International approaches to social prescribingÌý
  • Health and the justice systemÌý

Module aims: By the end of this module, students will be able to: Ìý

  1. Identify and demonstrate a critical understanding of community wellbeing challenges in a local context from more than one discipline.Ìý
  2. Analyse and interpret primary and secondary data associated with addressing community wellbeing challenges and possible social prescribing solutions and the interconnectivity between challenges,Ìý theories, evidence and solutions.Ìý
  3. Demonstrate inventive and creative problem-solving skills through different co-production methods. Ìý
  4. Explain, apply and evaluate interpersonal and communication skills and competences in developing working relationships as part of complex and diverse teams and using co-production methods. Ìý
  5. Analyse, discuss, and apply relevant theoretical approaches and frameworks from academic and policy/professional perspectives.Ìý
