Description

This module introduces some key concepts and concerns in Comparative Literary Studies –Ìý world literature and transnational literature, canonicity and literary afterlives, genre, intermediality, and the place of translation and adaptation in comparative literary studies – as well as allowing students to explore a particular case study in the light of this thinking.ÌýÌý

CMII0169 is divided into two five-week blocks. The first block consists of a one-hour lecture each week, followed by a one-hour seminar, allowing students to discuss the topic further in small groups on the basis of prescribed readings.Ìý

For the second block students choose one of six case studies, each delivered as a weekly two-hour seminar in a small group. There you will be encouraged to read, think about and debate a specific set of texts in the light of what you have learned in the first teaching block, as well as developing your own research skills.Ìý
