Description

The principles of practical aspects of providing anaesthesia care, including common approaches to ensuring surgery is tolerable by patients. Trainees will become familiar with airway assessment and approaches to both the safe preparation and administration of anaesthetic drugs. Trainees will understand how and why general anaesthesia, sedation and regional anaesthesia techniques are used for patients. This module will cover in detail the commonly used anaesthetic agents and their mechanism of action. Trainees will apply this learning to anaesthetic room and clinical procedures delivering general, local and regional anaesthesia for surgery. The module concludes with concepts of how multi-disciplinary care is organised to meet the diverse challenges imposed by patients with different co-morbidities undergoing different surgical procedure with differing degrees of urgency.
