Description

This module explores the principles of conservation of contemporary artworks. It will specifically address the theoretical and ethical issues involved in the conservation of contemporary culture, from artist and community participation to the ways in which artworks and objects are made through forms of collecting, conservation, and collections management. The module will also expand the realm of contemporary art to consider contemporary culture in general. In the second part of the course, students will become acquainted with documentation, risk assessment and preventive conservation practices, sustainability and waste lifecycle, and will explore how these are expressed in conservation work. This will also include issues of inclusion and participation in collection care practices across contexts.Ìý
