Description

The overarching aim of the module is to introduce you to data analysis and build your confidence and abilities in planning data analysis, using appropriate software (including NVivo and STATA), as well as interpret the results.

The teaching and learning approach for this module will be focused on teaching you different data analysis tools including how to use software packages for both qualitative and quantitative analysis.ÌýÌý There will be practical exercises where you will put the analytical techniques introduced to you as well as the software to use on analyzing datasets.Ìý You will also be asked to present and interpret the results from these statistical exercises.

The approach to teaching is based on facilitating the application of concepts, research methods and principles to practice-related contexts and examples of research projects in the healthcare management area.Ìý This approach will be used to develop your ability to think critically about data collection and use of statistics in business and health research.

You will also be expected to work independently through readings, discussion forums to ensure appropriate grasp of the readings.

At the end of this module you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a crucial understanding and evaluation of different approaches to analysing qualitative and quantitative data

  • Critically appraise published research studies based the data analysis presented in the paper
  • Demonstrate awareness and application of different techniques for describing and analysing data

Practical and Transferable Skills:

  • Use software packages for data analysis
