Description

The skills taught throughout this module are structured to compliment and support the overall pedagogical oeuvre (analytical and practical) of Design for Manufacturing. This module will build a foundational fluency with manufacturing strategies. Taught skills will build technical competency and tacit knowledge to enable student outcomes across this master's programme, enabling production capability and DfM thinking across design, theory, and practice. Digital, analogue, and advanced manufacturing tools will be contextualised to enable students to know how to select the right tool for their research. A variety of teaching and learning strategies will be used to deliver workshops that are engaging for all skill levels. Students will benefit from upskilling their making capabilities whilst learning value propositions for various manufacturing strategies to improve their designs. Skills workshops will involve individual and group work with weekly opportunities for feedback. The course structure will build upon taught skills, advancing the depth of skill sets as the module progresses.ÌýTaught materialÌýin First Term will cover a breadth of essential skills, tool use and material knowledge useful for all students in this master’s programme. Second Term will deliver focused workshops in specific advanced manufacturing techniques.
