Description

This module will give students an understanding of the general principles of scientific endeavour, whilst familiarising students with the research process. The module will look specifically at the nature of scientific knowledge, and the elements underpinning different approaches to designing and doing research. The key components of research planning will be covered, and students will learn about different methods of data collection. The module is designed to provide an understanding of research design, with a view to providing practical knowledge which can be used in planning a dissertation project.

PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE STUDYING ON A MODULAR FLEXIBLE BASIS: We highly recommend that you take this module in the same year (or the year before) that you undertake SECU0045 (the dissertation project). It will aid you in the design of your dissertation. It also complements SECU0028 (Quantitative Methods) well, but as both modules run in Term 1 you need to ensure that you have the time to commit to both.
