Description

In this module you will be introduced to the field of project management and particularly the front-end and client-facing stages of projects. You will learn the fundamentals of scope management and techniques of requirements engineering particularly through a digital engineering lens in the built environment as well as other capital project industries. The module aims to provide you with a grounded theoretically understanding of systems thinking and techniques for defining, negotiating with stakeholders as well as validating and managing requirements for digital engineering. You will learn the legal, contractual and procurement-related implications of digital engineering and BIM and how to manage them. Through this module you will develop the intellectual and practical managerial abilities to apply systems engineering approaches, manage requirements and create digital briefs, compliant to the UK policy, around Building Information Modelling (BIM)-based digital delivery.

At the end of this module you will be able to:

  • Understand theories and literature streams of project management
  • Understand systems thinking theories
  • Understand how digital affects scope, requirements and configuration management
  • Outline stages of change control (such as request, review, assessment, decision etc.)
  • Appreciate ownership of digital models and issues such as copyright, licenses and IP
  • Understand non-traditional procurement routes for digital engineering, such as early contractor involvement (ECI), partnering and alliancing
  • Understand international developments with regards to procuring with BIM, such as Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) for Virtual Design and Construction (VDC)
