Description

The MSc Dissertation is a 10000-word piece of original research which you undertake throughout the later part of you course and which must be (project) managed by you. The dissertation is a distinctive and successful feature of the MSc courses with the School, which you will value highly as a personal achievement.

Its purpose is for you to develop and demonstrate your own research capabilities within the broad context of the course of study you have chosen. It is the opportunity for you to develop a programme of reading and research for the completion of your studies at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº and your professional career, and to receive one-to-one help and guidance over a period of weeks from a member of the academic staff allocated to them.

At the end of your Programme, you will produce a document (the dissertation) of up to 10,000 words which critically evaluates your research subject and your research objectives; discusses the existing knowledge around your chosen subject; sets out your own programme of research and investigation; and delivers conclusions that are valuable for others about the outcomes of your investigation.

The subject for research is chosen by you and considerable freedom is given to you to develop a research proposal which suits your professional interests, goals, and aspirations. Advice is available from the academic staff about the suitability of the proposed investigation

Over the course of recent years many students have produced some excellent studies, which have contributed to our knowledge about their chosen subject, and some have even led to publication of conference papers and journal articles.

The module is delivered in several distinct phases:ÌýSessions on research skills and methodology Submission of a 300-word Research Outline Allocation of MSc Dissertation supervisor, Development of aÌý Ethics Form, and Core MSc dissertation work through the summer up until the submission of the completed dissertation in August.
