Description

The STEaPP DPA student is first prepared for returning to his/her own organisation and for gathering relevant research materials for his/her thesis (including the policy portfolio) and subsequently does a designated piece of field work and reporting 'on the job'. The module contents include DPA-specific issues related to becoming a "reflexive practitioner" (like how to handle potential conflicts between obligations and loyalty to one's employer and being an 'independent' doctoral students’independent’ doctoral student at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº, and questions of research ethics). Some specific additions are given to the research methods already are treated in the STEaPP DTP Research Methods module. During reading week and during the last week of term 1, twoTwo intensive days (6 hour per day) will prepare the students. Besides In addition to discussing relevant literature, practitioners will be brought in to share their experiences in of combining policy work with reflexive academic work. During the rest of the 12-month period in which this module is running, when the students are back in their organisations, students and supervisors will maintain interactions via a dedicated Moodle platform. The students will also comment on each others each other’s' experiences; they thus constitute a sort of 'action learning set'. At the end of the module, students will hand in a policy portfolio and a reflexive piece of writing.
