Description
This is a compulsory module for the MSc Environment, Politics and Society programme that focuses on the interface between theory and practice in relation to a series of issues like environmental justice and conflict, biosecurity and health, energy, climate change,citizen science, and natural resource depletion. The course examines the work of professionals and cultural practitioners and the practical, political and ethical challenges that they face. Issues to be examined may include the work of international organisations, NGOs, consultancies, scientific laboratories and cultural institutions; the role of visual methodologies such as photography and film making in the exploration of environmental problems; and relations between ethics,politics, and professional practice.
The course aims are as follows:
To foster students’ understanding of the interface between geographical theory and environmental politics and practice.
To enable an understanding of the diversity of professional practices that address environmental problems. To enable students to employ a range of research methods in practice
