This module introduces Environmental Assessment and Management for infrastructure. We cover the legislation, processes and techniques involved in conducting environmental assessments and current practice in impact mitigation and management. The module aims to provide students with both the theories and real-world examples to help them understand recent trends in the field and critically reflect on important issues and dilemmas affecting current practice (the rise of digital EIA, the role of AI in environmental decision making, sustainable development, planning net gain, streamlining of EIA processes) and develop skills and knowledge to tackle complex infrastructure challenges, from mitigating climate change and developing clean energy to expanding green infrastructures and improving social benefits of integrated transport networks.
