Description

°ä´Ç²Ô³Ù±ð²Ô³Ù: â¶Ä¯â¶Ä¯Ìý

This module will provide students with an in depth understanding of feminist critiques of pedagogy, knowledge and curriculum. It will introduce students to the range of different ways feminists have theorized and implemented alternative approaches to teaching and learning; and to feminist understandings and practice in the field of knowledge and the curriculum. This will include attention to institutional and interpersonal power dynamics; the way certain ideas come to dominate in the formation and transmission of different disciplines; and intersectional links between issues of gender, sexuality, race and class; as well as critiques of the commodification of feminist movements in educational spaces. These ideas will be introduced and explored through a range of theoretical literature and illustrative cases of feminist work in education. Throughout, there will be opportunities for student to explore their own experience of education, their positionality in relation to the exclusions enacted in contemporary educational practice, and to construct creative alternatives. Ìý

Students will gain a critical awareness of a range of feminist theorizations of pedagogy, knowledge and the curriculum; and experience of thinking through the application of these theories to develop critical alternatives to current educational practice. Feminist approaches to teaching and learning will be incorporated into face to face and online individual and group activities on the module. Ìý
