Description

The Finance Research Project module offers students the opportunity to apply the knowledge gained through the MSc Finance core and optional modules to explore significant issues in finance. The investigated issued could relate to a wide range of financial challenges faced by governments, large corporations or financial institutions and agents such as banks, brokers, derivative traders, insurance companies or rating agencies. The project takes the form of a traditional dissertation comprising individual research work. However, students are encouraged to identify suitable projects with firms.

Finance Research Project students are expected to draw on the techniques and skills that they have developed during the MSc Finance programme. Therefore, their dissertations should be related to the MSc Finance syllabus. The dissertations should also demonstrate their ability to integrate their knowledge and apply it in novel situations. To support students with their research, the School of Management allocates a supervisor for each student. In addition, students are given access to resources of the School of Management, including specialised software, market-connected terminals and related bibliography.

The dissertation enables students to create a substantial piece of work that highlights their financial expertise. Students can share their outcome with potential employers or use it as a starting point for further studies.
