Description

This is a lab-based scientific research project. Projects are in general supervised by an academic member of staff in the Department of Pharmaceutics, but industry and hospital based projects are also likely to be offered. Students are provided with information on the staff members available to supervise them and the likely projects available in Term 1, through research 鈥渙pen days鈥. In Term 2, students will take a series of research skills workshops designed to equip them with the key lab skills they need to perform project work. Students will also be asked to make a selection of 3 鈥 5 preferred supervisors towards the middle of Term 2, and supervisors will be allocated in the final weeks of the term taking into account student preferences.

Each project is unique and usually complements the particular research activities of the supervisor. Laboratory work (undertaken in the supervisor鈥檚 laboratory) is undertaken for around 7 weeks between May and August, with the timing to be agreed between the student and supervisor. Students are expected to develop their own research ideas and experimental series in discussion with their supervisor, and complete a comprehensive literature review to supplement their work. Results are written up and submitted as a dissertation and presented in an oral presentation in late August/early September
