Description

The module is designed to give ophthalmic practitioners (optometrists, orthoptists and ophthalmic nurses) the knowledge and skills to evaluate and manage ophthalmic emergencies in both a primary and secondary care setting. This module will provide clinical assessment and management skills to registered practioners working that will cover:

- Advanced topics in anatomy & physiology of the eye; - Knowledge of clinical assessments, procedures and triage relevant in an emergency ophthalmic setting - Identification of tests for further investigation and interpreting results - Development of clinical management plans - Knowledge on use and prescription of common drugs used in the accident and emergency department

On completion, practitioners will have both the knowledge and skills to work both in a multidisciplinary setting and/or independently when examining patients presenting with ophthalmic emergencies.
