Summary

In this module students will learn the importance of collaboration and team dynamics – all essential in humanitarian contexts. Students will bring together key aspects of humanitarian policy and practice that they have acquired across the programme to work together as a team to create a response/intervention plan based on a ‘live’ (current) humanitarian emergency.

This will require the group to plan their response/intervention using skills learnt across the core modules, including project management skills (budget forecasting, risk management, business planning etc, as well as technical responses (e.g. innovation, health programming etc).

You will also learn how to pitch/present your ideas, preparing an outline plan for approval then a detailed response plan on the approved project.

The method of delivery

The module will be delivered primarily through supported team-based project work. It is designed to give students an experiential learning experience building on the core concepts learnt across the programme to develop a humanitarian responses plan. Students will also gain collaboration and team building skills. Groups will be assigned over the course of the previous terms and these experiences will form the building blocks for this work. Teams will present their ideas to tutors and peers at an allocated point in Term 3, as well as drop-in workshops and informal tutorials and peer support sessions. Tutorial support from a nominated supervisor and potentially a humanitarian organisation mentor will be provided throughout this project.Ìý
