Description

Habilitation in Practice: Long Cane Skills is a practical skills module tailored to the development and enhancement of long cane skills training and independent living skills suitable for the role as a Qualified Habilitation Specialist. The module accommodates all aspects of long cane, adaptive behaviour and independent travel skills to inform and equip students with the core skills (matched against the Quality Standards for the Profession). The module runs in parallel to the academic components of the Graduate Diploma in Habilitation ensuring that the link between theory and practice is complemented in real terms. Students undertaking this module will also complete an integrated assessed extended training placement (the ETP) in the second half of the academic year, enabling students to practice and enhance their skill set in a setting that is different to their usual area of practice.
