Description

Year 1 Practical Skills Module: Habilitation in Practice: Sighted Guide, Pre-Cane and Independent Living Skills Development is a practical skills module tailored to the development and enhancement of sighted guide and pre-cane skills training and independent living skills suitable for the role as a Qualified Habilitation Assistant or as a prerequisite basis for continuing training to be a Qualified Habilitation Specialist. The module accommodates all aspects of sighted guide skills, pre-cane training, and adaptive behaviour/independent living skills development to inform and equip students with the core skills (matched against the Quality Standards for the Profession). The module runs in parallel to the academic/theoretical components of the Graduate Diploma in Habilitation, ensuring that the link between theory and practice is embedded throughout. Students undertaking this module will need access to practical opportunities to enhance and develop their skill set for this module.
