Description

‘Health Related Behaviours and Cognitions’ is a module an overview of key health psychology theories and constructs and how they are applied. Topics covered in this module include a general introduction to health psychology and generic skills for postgraduate students, models of health behaviour, symptom perception, risk perception, habits, self-regulatory models and illness representations, smoking cessation, exercise and health, as well as diet/nutrition and health.

By the end of this module, you should have been provided with:

  1. A state-of-the-art overview of key health psychology theories and constructs

  2. An understanding of how these key theories and constructs are applied to explain and predict commonly studied health-related behaviours (including dietary consumption, exercise, and smoking)

  3. An understanding of how these key theories and constructs are applied to explain and predict health outcomes

  4. An overview of qualitative research methods.Ìý

This module is compulsory for all students enrolled on the MSc Health Psychology. Spaces are limited to 60.

Teaching will take place in the form of lectures (11 weeks) and Journal clubs (10 weeks)Ìýin Term 1 of the academic year.
