Description

Currently policies and practices affecting Higher Education around the world are strongly influenced by factors which derive from outside the relevant national context. Specifically, the forces of globalization, technological change and the influences of cross national comparisons and of global agencies, such as the OECD, have radically changed the frames within which HE policy makers and providers now operate within. This module sets out to investigate, analyse and critique the nature of these influences through the adoption of a perspective derived from the fields of comparative and international studies of Higher Education. This module is not designed to provide extended descriptions of the HE systems of a range of different nations or regions nor will it seek to identify institutional best practices or recipes for what works. The sessions include lectures and discussions, and there are opportunities to draw on experiences from professional practice. The module is compulsory for all course members of the MA in Higher Education Studies, but is also available to other individuals with experience working in the Higher Education sector (e.g. HE Teaching, Administration or Planning, or in relevant Agencies such as Quality assurance, International education, relevant consultancy work).
