Description

This module delivers a comprehensive introduction to the study of ophthalmology and provides a baseline knowledge of the field. In taking this module you will gain a core knowledge of the structure and function of the eye, including the basic applied anatomy and physiology of the eye. The module will also introduce other basic sciences subjects related to Ophthalmology such as pathology, immunology, microbiology, embryology and genetics.

There will be introductory sessions to subspecialty subjects in Ophthalmology that will be developed further in the relevant subsequent modules. You will gain key ophthalmic skills, including an understanding of the common clinical skills needed to examine ophthalmic patients and interpret clinical findings and the ability to take a comprehensive and directed clinical history relevant to eye symptoms.

You will understand the principles, use and interpretation of some common ophthalmic investigations and imaging modalities, and gain a connected understanding of the investigations and approaches used in ophthalmology, and the context and relationships between subspecialties.
