Description

The module gives a wide perspective of networks and serves as an introduction to the other MSc modules in the communications programmes. ITN introduces the basics of communication systems and networks. A review of signal properties and of propagation channels from wired to wireless and optical is covered and then followed by the structure of communication systems and signals. Telecommunication networks are introduced with concepts of circuit and packet switching and with a focus on packet network technologies and Internet components and architecture and technologies. Telecommunication networks applications are illustrated with lectures on multimedia systems and the Internet of Things (IoT).
