Description

The dissertation provides the opportunity for students to undertake independent research and writing to complete a stand-alone project based on their individual scholarly interests. You will develop ideas for a dissertation topic in the spring term and submit an outline description of your proposal early in the summer term.

You are assigned a supervisor who aligns most closely with their research interests and will discuss the proposed topic in a half-hour viva with your primary and secondary supervisors, who will pass the title as acceptable or suggest revisions. Two further 45-minute meetings with your primary supervisor take place over the summer before submitting the dissertation (12,000 words) at the end of August.
