Description

Aims:

The module aims to develop modelling concepts and simulation skills to consider complex process and material design in the context of safety and sustainable development, with examples taken from nature-inspired engineering and from a number of different disciplines.

Synopsis:

The module develops modelling concepts and simulation skills to consider complex process and material design in the context of safety and sustainable development, with examples taken from nature-inspired engineering and related to a number of different disciplines.

As the background of our students is diverse, the focus is on fundamental principles in a practical context, rather than on pure mathematics to ensure that the material is relevant and accessible to all students.

Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of this module, the students are able to:

  • develop computational models for complex plant items;
  • use contemporary simulation tools to model process behaviour;
  • make informed decisions on process design based on conflicting and missing information in the context of safety and sustainable process plant development
