Description

The Dissertation is a student-led, supervisor supported research project and is submitted at the end of the taught academic year. The Dissertation is open to all ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº MSc Global Health and Development students. A series of seminars and workshops will be organised during the year to guide students through the process of researching and writing the dissertation. The dissertation provides an opportunity to consolidate knowledge and skills learned during core and optional modules and to explore in detail an issue of interest that may be of relevance to a student’s future work in global health and development. For the dissertation, students choose one of four types of research to undertake. Available options are: review literature; collect and analyze primary data; analyse existing qualitative or quantitative data; develop an action plan or research protocol. Limited bursaries are available to support fieldwork to collect primary data on a competitive basis.

Upon successful completion of the dissertation, students will be able to:

1. Devise a research question and explain the methods required to answer that question

2. Use appropriate research techniques to assemble necessary information relevant to the research topic

3. Analyse and assess data to address a research question

4. Communicate research findings effectively in written form according to expected criteria
