This applied module will see students implement their skills within a group dynamic as they integrate learning and skills development from ‘Foundations of Ecology, Climate Change & Health' and 'Data Science for Ecology, Climate Change & Health’ modules to address a real-world complex health issue presented by an internal or external industry/policy partner. Students will manage the whole process from conceptual design, to development, pitching the solution and implementing and testing their proposed solution. Teamwork and communication are important skills that require experience and practice. Students will explore roles, responsibilities, and how to work effectively as part of a team, while developing their understanding of project planning, policy landscape, funding, legacy, and science communication. Building upon core programme modules, students will further develop and integrate the hard and soft skills required to solve complex health problems in a One Health framing. This module will provide you the opportunity to make meaningful contacts in industry, national and local government and NGOs via our programme partners, through which it may also be possible to develop ideas and collaborate for your Term 3 research project.

The aims of this module are to:

1. Enable students to apply knowledge of the interdependency of ecological and human health to a complex health issue such as zoonotic disease emergence, mental health, and food and water insecurity.
2. Provide students with necessary skills to assess, design, plan and test an ecology, climate change and human health project within a multidisciplinary framework.
3. Support students to develop a firm understanding of effective teamwork and collaboration.
4. Enable students to explain and communicate complex ideas, problems and solutions to different audiences.

After taking this module students will be able to:

• EVALUATE the practical parameters within which One Health challenges can be addressed
• IDENTIFY appropriate methods from different disciplines to develop One Health solutions
• PRODUCE a collaboratively developed funding proposal to support a co-designed project
• COMMUNICATE complex ideas, problems, and solutions to persons within and external to a particular discipline
• USE reflective and self-directed learning and evaluation as academic and professional skills
• EVALUATE and encourage behaviour which contributes to successful group work
