Description

Summary

The module covers:ÌýNutritional requirements during childhood; epidemiology of childhood obesity, consequences of childhood obesity (psychosocial issues and medical complications), interventions to prevent and manage obesity; management of eating disorders; evaluation of healthy lifestyle programmes and public health policies focusing on healthy lifestyles. It also discusses epidemiology of breastfeeding; interventions to increase prevalence and duration of breastfeeding; association between obesity and physical activity and measurement of physical activity in young children, and relationship between physical activity and nutritional requirements

Learning Objectives and Outcomes

After taking this module, you should be able to:

1. Describe policies, requirements, and practices relating to promotion of healthy nutrition in childhood

2. ​Describe physical activity levels across childhood and recognise age-appropriate activities from infancy to adolescenceÌýwith appropriate nutritional support

3. Discuss the epidemiology and outcomes of obesity in childhood

4. Describe influences on normal growth and development, understanding how to assess and monitor growth during childhood

5. Describe and begin to develop effective interventions for the promotion of optimal nutrition, physical activity and obesity in childhood.

    Teaching and Learning Methods

    Teaching is delivered face-to-face over five days, supplemented by online learning.

    This module will be assessed by a 3000 word coursework write up
