Description

The Research Project with its final Dissertation is a module for those studying for our MSc programme only. It represents one third of the credits for the MSc. It should involve an appropriate amount of time, overall the equivalent of 3 months (about 60 working days) on background reading, data collection and final writing up. Most of the work is completed between April and August with the Dissertation submitted in August and the final Presentation and Viva in early September.

The Research Project needs dedication and enthusiasm and requires genuine interest. It involves not only research skills such as design methodology and data analysis but also critical reflection of the current literature. Writing and presentation skills are also essential and coursework and essay writing in the taught modules aim to prepare for the dissertation and the viva.

The dissertation is structured as a 3-piece document that includes a literature review, the original research and a lay article. This format along with the final oral presentation equips students with material for future submissions that enable them to participate in national and international scientific events, to publish their work in peer reviewed journals and to promote research ideas and findings to a much wider audience.
