Placement 3 is a 60-day (450 hour) placement which students will complete full-time 5 days a week and takes place in the second term of the second year. This placement is focused on the development of autonomy, communication skills and clinical decision making in a variety of clinical settings. The placement will provide the opportunity to develop students’ ability to independently and consistently apply the knowledge, skills and professional attributes required to implement dietetic practice with individuals, groups, and other professionals in a variety of settings.

By the end of Placement 3, for individual and group interventions, students should be able to:

LO1: Applied KnowledgeÌý

Demonstrate an applied knowledge of dietetics required to support evidence-based practice on placement in selected service users and workstreams.

LO2: Assessment

Demonstrate competence in the ability to identify, collect and interpret relevant information and evidence from the range of sources available in a systematic way to assess nutritional needs in selected service users (individuals, groups and populations) and in accordance with the care process (BDA, 2016).

LO3: Dietetic Diagnosis

Formulate and justify appropriate nutrition and dietetic diagnoses or define a community public health need.

LO4: Care Planning

Demonstrate competence in, develop and implement an appropriate dietetic care and action plans for achieving dietetic goals.

LO5: Review and Monitoring

Demonstrate the ability to put in place effective mechanisms to review, monitor and evaluate dietetic interventions in selected service users (individuals, groups and populations) and in accordance with the care process (BDA, 2016).

LO6: Prioritisation

Demonstrate competence in the prioritisation and management of workload to independently progress selected tasks and workstreams to agreed deadlines within available time and resources.

LO7: Reflection and Review

Understand and demonstrate effective reflective practice and how this contributes to professional development, service delivery and enhances outcomes of service users.Ìý

LO8: Communication

Demonstrate effective communication skills and approaches with service users (e.g. individuals, groups and populations), supervisors, other professionals and support staff.ÌýÌý

LO9: Self-directed/autonomous Practice

Demonstratese transition from directed to more self-directed practice where competence is demonstrated in selected service users (e.g. individuals, groups and populations) and workstreams.

LO10: Professionalism

Demonstrate professional behaviour enacted in practice in accordance with HCPC standards (Guidance on Conduct and Ethics for students (2016), Standards of Proficiency, 2013) and local organisational policies
