Description

This professional programme combines working in a clinical setting, with lectures and seminars to support academic development and the opportunity to complete a doctoral level research project. Teaching is offered in a small-group setting and aims to provide a thorough understanding of normal child development, childhood psychopathology and psychotherapeutic techniques linked with direct experience of clinical work and conducting relevant research. Assessment description: A key element of the doctoral training is the assessment of the trainee’s clinical capacities, as demonstrated in the clinical setting. The training is divided into a series of one-year ‘placement periods’, with the training usually continuing for four years in one setting (or sometimes shared across more than one setting). Clinical competence will be monitored throughout the clinical placements and will be assessed at the end of each year. Trainees must pass each year before they can progress onto the next year.
