Description

The aim of the Quantitative Methods module is to provide students with an understanding of different types of research design and statistical analysis, with a particular focus on those methods and concepts that are appropriate to the application of Crime Science. Relevant examples will be used to show students how to apply these principles and methods to the real-world problem of crime analysis and prevention. There will also be a focus on how to read and interpret statistical evidence. A number of data analysis techniques will also be covered and students will have the opportunity to practice these using real and simulated data using software such as Stata. PLEASE READ IF YOUARE STUDYING ON A MODULAR FLEXIBLE BASIS: This module should be taken in the same year as, or close to you taking the dissertation module. We recommend that you take this module prior to taking SECU0022 (Crime Mapping and Spatial Analysis), unless you already have experience of using statistical software through professional work or previous studies.
