Description

Content:
Research is an important element of the MA Education (Advanced Practice) programme, enabling students the opportunity to conduct research and to explore, in some depth, an area of interest (within students鈥 practice contexts either past, current or expected).听 Students can build on work already undertaken through other modules, normally deepening their explorations of the scholarship already studied but asking new questions relevant to their own contexts.听 The actual content of this module (it is not a 鈥榯aught鈥 module) gives access to materials on different research methodologies relevant for practitioner research, consideration of ethical issues (linked to Wyse et. al., 2018, 鈥淐lose-to-Practice鈥 concepts) and support in organising the final 10,000 word thesis.听

Teaching delivery:
The module is presented through Moodle and runs for the whole academic year.听 In the Autumn term students identify their topic for research sharing 500 words so that the supervision team can select supervisors. Three tasks support students in completing forms for ethical approval, and planning their projects over the academic year.听

Indicative topics:
Qualitative research methodologies; Practitioner Research; Action Research.听

Module Aims and / or Objectives:
The aim of this module is to support MA Education (Advanced Practice) students in conducting a small-scale research within their own settings (past, current or future).听 To achieve this, they will:听

  • Explore using scholarship to develop research questions;听
  • Conduct an ethical scrutiny of their proposed research;听
  • Identify methods of data collection, collect data and analyse it;听
  • Complete a written report for assessment.听
